Deep Fried Dub is an electronic duo that consists of two Melbourne based producers Ben Hartley and Ben Dudding. The Deep Fried sound is an eclectic mix of contemporary electronic beats with deep dub stylings that crosses genres as diverse as Dub, Drum and Bass, Dance Hall and Deep Tribal Beats.

The first track is a remix from their album Refried, which is is a remix album of tracks from artists like Pitch Black, Lotus, and Banco De Gaia.

Slow cooked was released early in 2013, it's the duo's first album. Expect sultry vocals, huge bass lines, fresh beats and an overall good vibe. Enjoy!

GRiZ ~ Rebel Era

Griz is a young musician from Detroit with a big sound. His unique approach to production involves sampling vintage vinyl, and reworking bits into a fresh modern mix. He's known for his builds, bass drops, and clever sampling. Griz defines his sound as electro soul. He's been playing saxaphone since he was a kid, which he incorporates into the live show. Last year he brought us his very cool debut, Mad Liberation, this year he follows up with Rebel Era, an album just as innovative and compelling. In generous fashion, Griz has released the entire album for free. Enjoy!

Ott - Baby Robot EP

It's been a while since we've heard some new music from Ott. The Baby Robot EP is a simple two-track release, but both tracks are satisfying in their own way. I enjoyed this enthusiastic review from TheUntz.

"Zounds! A midweek treat for the weary psychedelic travelers shackled to desks and manning the meatpacking lines. Perched on the precipice of a massive fall tour complete with a stunning new live show and a gaggle of special guests. "Baby Robot" is a lush, symphonic piece oozing with walls of cushy synths and a hypnotic beat that laps up against the ethereal vox like waves on the shore.

The B-Side "Mr. Balloon Hands" is a trippy, broken beat opus riddle with Indian raga scatting and plenty of exotic percussion to get those tired feet moving. Bouncy, buoyant, and ebullient, this cut will push you over onto the safety of the weekend. whereupon Ott triumphantly returns to the great state of Colorado with a pair of shows, and then Boulder bound on Saturday. The rest of the country need not fret, the brand new show hits cities big and small from coast to coast through the month of September and into October with Bluetech, Anomie Belle, Aligning Minds, and many more incredible acts."

Lauge and Baba Gnohm - Refleksioner

I dig this track quite a bit. Refleksioner is a progressive down tempo track with a shuffle bug beat, pulsing bass line, and synth lines from Space Odyssey. This song has a special quality, it evokes emotion, thought and intention without being sappy. The breakdown at 5:00 is just gorgeous and the build up @ 5:30 just propels the listener into orbit. This is a track for the space age, and to receive adequate reception you may need to update your antenna, and turn up that cosmic boom box. .

Lauge & Baba Gnohm are the duo- Henrik Laugesen & Kalle Christensen, both from Denmark.

Dymons - Druid's Brew

Calling all Shamen: Grab a spliff and the keys to your flying saucer, we’re listening to Druid’s Brew!

Elestial Records was formed in 2006 in London by Daniel Symons, otherwise known as Dymons. The following year he released Druids Brew, recorded at Alchemy Studios in Switzerland.

Dymons takes us on a journey through hypnotic tribal rhythms, Rasta-approved chords hitting the upbeat and full-bodied ambience, one begins to lose track of time and space. The album  is a potion made of many influences. Although very dub oriented this album flows through a multitude of genres and atmospheres.

The album does a fine job of telling a story, starting with a proper introductory track, moving into the vocal hit Gathering of Lights featuring the beautiful vocals of Amina Djahnine.  Dymons moves us through elements of dub, tribal, and trance rhythms. The soundscapes are very colorful and polished, and the instruments are widely varied and well placed. You really get the feeling that each track tells a chapter of the whole story, leading up to the magnificent nineteen-minute conclusion, Blessings.

Vocalist Amina Djahnine returns with another haunting siren song lightly placed over an exotic, melodic, dreamy, dubby bed of sound. The main thread of the track weaves in and out, making itself present enough to make the track whole, but vanishing for long enough to allow one to get lost in the mood. I am also always happy to hear a bit of psychedelic spoken word in moments like these, in this case we hear Ralph Metzner emcee a few lines here and there.

Sit back and enjoy the ride or move you feet to the beats, either way this album will take you on a trip!

Hang Massive

Hang Massive is a collaboration between Danny Cudd and Markus Johansson. The duo first started playing in the summer of 2010 and since have performed all over the world. I've always loved their song Once Again but never saw the video. Wow!

Makyo

Makyo is a music project of Gio Makyo, producer, DJ and founder of Dakini Records .   Makyo is from Tokyo, but his collaborations take him all over the globe.  You'll hear the hypnotic bass of dub, the spacious drones of ambient, the lively percussion of India, and the swirling synths of trance. Jasmine and Desire are the two tracks I've chosen. Relax and enjoy. ~Namaste

Third Ear Audio

I'm a sucker for good Dub music and Third Ear Audio does Dub right.  Third Ear is a collab between Doof  and Earthling . This album was released in 2009 on Dubmission Records and it's really just lovely. Here's a few highlights.

Freak of Nature is modern dub at it's best. Deep gutteral bass line, tweaked out synths, spring reverbs and of course plenty of tape echo. Just classic!

Up in Smoke features some Cheech and Chong samples, and should be vaporized to properly enjoy!

Globular - Magnitudes of Order

Morison Bennett, also known as  Globular has a new album dropping soon called Magnitudes of Order.  If his music has been an inspiration to you, not only is this a great opportunity to show support, but you'll receive a CD in the mail, along with a digital download. You can donate here

Here's a tease of the new album!

Blue Lunar Monkey is Daniel Gradilla and Rainbow is from his album entitled 2012.
Enjoy :)

Naturelement

Naturelement is a music project from Dimitris Dritsas, a  a young producer from Greece. Dimitris started his journey into music in the underground party scene in mid 90’s. Like many of us, he was inspired by the electronic & psychedelic sounds pumping, swirling and melting from sound systems across the land.

I don't usually post full albums, but Chill-O-Matta  is solid all the way thru. Dimitris sounds are creative, well produced and absolutely worth a spin. Enjoy :)

Unexplore Feelings is a track off the 2013 Orbital Solaris EP.  Deep break beat groove, warm synths and a simple but lovely melody.

He's the founder of Twisted Records and also works in the electronic duos Younger Brother and ShpongleIn 2002 Ott remixed a bunch of Hallucinogen  tracks which was later releasesd as an album called Hallucinogen in DUB.   This is a great album, but it gets better....

In May of 2007, Hallucinogen in DUB  performed LIVE for the first time. This one night show was recorded live at Brixton Academy in London. The band lineup was...

Ott  (Beats, Synths + FX)
Simon Posford (Guitar, Synths + FX)

David Nock  (Drums)

Here's a few stand out tracks. Enjoy!

Natural Born Chillers

The second chapter of the Natural Born Chillers was released by Alpha Zero in 2009.  This entire album is worth checking out, but here are 3 favorites.

It' s Gonna Rain is a dubby track from 3 Wise Monkeys with a cool live feel.

Flying in the Rain is an incredible track from Tau Kita which is over 12 minutes long. It's a journey worth taking.

Fear not, Ott will get his own feature soon. This is his  remix of Bluetech’s - Prayers for Rain. Deep throbbing bass line, Nord leads, and the usual twisted sounds you expect from this psydub master. Enjoy ;)

The Picture. is a track from Mindphoria who is part of a Goa trance music project from Istanbul. The trance influence is a nice change, and it has a cool video to boot. Enjoy ;)

Shpongle

Many of you will be quite familiar with the band Shpongle. For those who are not,  Shpongle is an English psychedelic music project which formed in 1996. The group includes Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen) and Raja Ram. The duo are considered pioneers of the psychedelic chill out scene and have inspired many of todays producers.

Shpongle fans are anxiously awaiting the release of  the bands forthcoming album Museum Of Consciousness.  This is their 5th album, an it's due out in July 29th. To wet our appetites, the band released the first track from the album entitled Brain in a Fishtank. Have a listen....

While we're in still in Shpongleland, here's a few memorable tracks from previous albums. The first, Nothing Is Something Worth Doing is from their 2009 release, Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland. This is is my favorite album to date.

This last video entitled Flashback was created by the artist Danny Gomez.  The video combines his artwork and the Shpongle track Divine Moments of Truth.  Enjoy.

Adham Shaikh

This 13 minute track from Adham Shaikh is called Kundalini Fuel. This track was relased by Dakini Records in 2009. It was part of a compilation entitled Tribal Matrix 2. I first heard it on mix by the Desert Dwellers, and was captivated. It's a simple song, but the simplicity is part of it's charm. A nice hand drumming rhythm, light swirling synth, and gorgeous melody from an Indian wood instrument called a Pungi. The song transports the listener to a warm Summer night in New Delhi. Enjoy

DJ Drez

DJ Drez is a producer & DJ from LA.  His style is based in hip hop and turntablism but his recent release The Lotus Memoirs pulls inspiration from a deeper source. The first track below Nectar Drop is just a sample, but it's a lovely meditative track with a nice dubby groove.   The second track is a catchy adaptation of Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth.

Bluetech

Bluetech, also known as Evan Bartholomew creates a unique style of digital downtempo from the West Coast. Classically trained on the piano, he deviated from the traditional structure of classical music and in his words "began to relearn the instrument from an energetic and tonal perspective." His sound is very unique, yet recognizable.  This first track Alchemie Dub is a favorite from his Sines and Singularities release in 2005.

His latest album Love Songs to the Source,  has been one of my go to albums for road trips and down time listening. The 2010 release employs a more dub-wise and organic sound than on previous albums.  Bluetech brought several collaborators on board including; featured vocal contributions from the likes of Dr. Israel, and Lynx; and horns from The March Fourth Marching Band. It's hard to pick a favorite from this album but Seed to Soil is a good one.

This next track To Mend is a beautiful collaboration between Bluetech and female vocalist Lynx.

Sergio Walgood

After releasing some tracks on several label compilations, Portuguese producer Sergio Walgood released his first solo album entitled Chill In Tribe in 2010. The album was released on anjavision records, and was recored by Sergio who played most of the instruments on the album. It's a mixture of Downtempo, Dub and Tribal Beats. The first track here, The Dream is quite a musical journey. Enjoy

Duck in Dub is a acid-dub track with a humongous bassline.

Razoof

Razoof is a producer from Germany who produces dub and reggae. This first track, Ghostbusta Dub  showcases his reggae sound with some soothing vocals from  Don Abi.

Donde el mar abraza (where the sea embraces) is a sexy tune witha great dubby bass line, skankin' guitar and seductive vocals. Enjoy

Beep

Darkness from Beep is such a pretty song. I could listen to it over and over.  "Mysterious, angelic, delicate, naked, but all the while arousing the bravery to conquer the fear of the dark... the unknown."

Gathering the Tribe

Interchill released their Gathering the Tribe compilation in 2006. It still sounds fresh seven years later. The compilation was intended to represent the West Coast festival sound. With a focus firmly on female vocals, live drums and natural instrumentation, this compilation has stood the test of time.

Madre dee vine is a track from Kin ship, an artist I don't know much about, but I love this track. The tabla, bass and sitar sound beautfiul and the vocals are soothing to the soul.

Picking up the energy, Adham Shaikh offered up this fun, feel good track called Marmalade Sun.

Banco De Gaia

Banco De Gaia (Toby Marks) is also one of the worlds leading exponents of globally inspired electronica. Mixing electronic and accoustic instruments, his work defies genre classification. His sound has been at the forefront of blending acoustic and electronic sounds, integrating themes and techniques from cultures and traditions the world over.

This first track Oreia is a good example. A solid drum groove, relentless dubby bass, and spacey vocals.

Banco De Gaia is back with a new album of all new material called "Apollo". The track "Wimble Toot" from the album has been remixed by psychill legends Eat Static and released as part of the "Wimble Toot EP". It's a catchy track with a fun Romanian "Gypsy" vibe.

Next up is a cool dubby mix from 100th Monkey.

Asura

Crossroads Limiter is an 11 minute musical journey from Asura, a music project from France. After an ambient opening, the track drops into a pulsing synth bass and some absolutely gorgeous vocals. This one is hypnotizing.

Altered State is just that. This deep trancey track takes a few minutes to get going, but when it does you're not turning back. Once the Elf horn sends it's signal, you know you're in deep....

El Hai ~ the voice of an angel singing over tribal rhythms. What more do you need?

Land Switcher

Land Switcher is a music project from France created by two musicians and longtime friends, Freddy Chauvin and Antoine Martineau. They played in a dub band years ago, and after a few late night parties they fell in love with the psy scene created Land Switcher. In their words.... the music is a cosmic journey through colors, grooves and intriguing atmospheres ...

Tribe Scenario has some lovely throbbing bass, cool tribal samples and pulsing dubby groove.

Horizon Hope - Sping tingling sub BASS ! African chanting,  - sick dubby vibe

This last track Deep Signals from a Land employs a warped yet middle Eastern chant along with their signiture pulsing 4/4 groove. It's a lovely spacious track with swirling synths.

Ecometric

Ecometric, also known as Brad Scott is from the San Francisco Bay area. His haunting melodies and tribal rhythms dance fluidly between spacious psy-chill and pulsing deep trance. This album is a collection of four beautiful tracks, which all flow together seamlessly. If you close your eyes, and open your mind, it's a journey which will take you deep into the forest.  ~Enjoy

Desert Dwellers

The Desert Dwellers have really moved me with their music. They have a deep global vision, and the production skills to capture it. This music is perfect for meditation, yoga, and for exploring  heightened states of consciousness. Desert Dwellers primarily consists of Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, amongst a webwork of inspiring collaborators.

Taking a new approach on digital production, they have combined the raw sounds of the natural world with skillfully blended deep bass, earthy percussion, etheric voices and culture crossing instrumentation. .  The result has been the prolific production of genre blending downtempo grooves that make for memorable listening experiences.

This first track, Wandering Sadhu is absolutely beautiful.

The Dub Sutras is just classic Desert Dwellers.  I feel more relaxed just writing about these guys!

Crossing the Desert ~  enchanting vocals, cool bass playing and their signiture open vibe.

Symbolico

Symbolico is musical producer from Israel. He's got a unique PsyStep sound with some definite wobble in his bass. Here's a couple of my favorite tracks. ~Enjoy!

Globular

One of my favorite producers at the moment is from Bristol in the UK and goes by the name Globular. His most recent album entitled 'a self fufilling prophecy' is available for free download at ektoploazm.com  which is a really cool free music portal.

The first track below is entitled "A Singular Synergy". This one is a personal favorite which  takes you deep into the Globular vortex of warped tribal vocals, chanting elves, throbbing bass lines and tripped out sounds. Globular is psy dub at it's best.  ~Enjoy

Subversion is a good example of modern dub music. Dub has it's roots in 1970's Jamaica, but it's producers like Globular who are keeping this sound fresh and alive. The drums feel live and the bass is deep. It draws you in with skankin' guitar, long delays and syncopated vocals. Light it up, and pass it on!

Welcome

I'm a music lover, searching far and wide for new sounds. I spent the early 90's following the Grateful Dead and the late 90's following the rave scene.  I've moved away from hi-energy electronica and have fallen into the vortex of psychedelic chillout music.

It's a space where ethnic sounds collide with modern day production. Deep dubby bass lines, solid drum grooves, eastern percussion, warped vocals, and pulsing synth lines; this is music that draws you in, and embraces you with a sonic hug.

This blog is my effort to help define and archive this global movement in sound.  I aim to showcase producers who tap into the psychoactive mindset and transmit these signals to the listener. Sit back and enjoy!
